The Garment, Footwear, and Travel Goods Association in Cambodia (KFG) has announced that by 2026, Cambodia's total minimum wage for the garment and footwear industry will surpass that of seven Asian countries, including Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Laos. According to the association, by August 2026, workers in Cambodia's garment, footwear, travel goods, and bag manufacturing sectors will receive a total minimum wage of $229.5, comprising a base minimum wage of $210 and other benefits amounting to $19.5. This total minimum wage is higher than that of countries such as Sri Lanka ($93), Myanmar ($97), Bangladesh ($102), Laos ($114), Pakistan ($143), India (approximately $192), and Vietnam (between $147 and $211). This development indicates a rise in wage levels in Cambodia's labor market, a notable trend for the country's economy where the garment sector is a significant source of employment. However, the impact of rising wages on international competitiveness will be a key focus going forward.
