Landslides, Rockslide Hit Olongapo City Amidst Continuous Rains

Two landslides and a rockslide hit the upper areas of Olongapo City on Saturday (Aug. 8) as continuous southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” rains saturated the landslide-prone mountainous area of Sitio Tabacuhan in Barangay Santa Rita. Village councilor John Tagulao Cruz, head of the Committee on Disaster, said the first landslide occurred in the morning, followed by another landslide and a rockslide. The incidents were attributed to the prolonged heavy rains that saturated the ground. Information is still being gathered on the extent of the damage and the number of residents affected or evacuated.
