Kampong Cham Governor Inspects Irrigation System to Support Over 2,000 Hectares of Rice Cultivation
Kampong Cham Governor On Chhunda inspected an irrigation system in Prey Chhor district. The system is set to supply water for over 2,000 hectares of rice cultivation, aiming to boost farmers' yields and improve their livelihoods.
On September 1, 2026, Kampong Cham Governor On Chhunda led a team of technical officials and relevant authorities to inspect an irrigation system in Prey Chhor district. The visit aimed to assess the system's capacity to supply water for agriculture and alleviate the hardships faced by farmers. Governor On Chhunda stated that the irrigation system in Prey Chhor district spans approximately 24 kilometers in total, with over 4 kilometers of concrete canals and about 20 kilometers of connecting unpaved channels. This system draws water from the "Teuk Chaa" water source area in Prey Chhor district, benefiting farmers primarily in two communes: Boeng Nay and Kroch. It is capable of irrigating a total area of over 2,000 hectares, particularly for rice cultivation. He further added that the water supply from this irrigation system will enable farmers to achieve two to three harvests per year, reduce their reliance on rainfall, and enhance agricultural productivity. This inspection is part of the Kampong provincial administration's commitment to strengthening and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure adequate water supply for farmers' cultivation and contribute to improving the living standards of local residents.
