Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam Agree to Strengthen Security Cooperation
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with his Laotian and Vietnamese counterparts in security to strengthen trilateral security cooperation. They agreed to enhance collaboration in maintaining peace in border areas and combating cross-border crimes such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cyber fraud.
On the morning of June 30, 2026, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet granted an audience to H.E. General Vanthong Kongmany, Minister of Public Security of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and H.E. General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The meeting took place at the Peace Palace. During the meeting, the Laotian and Vietnamese ministers expressed high appreciation for the excellent cooperation between the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam. They stated that this cooperation contributes to strengthening and expanding the relations and cooperation between the three countries. Both ministers briefed Samdech Thipadei on the fruitful outcomes of the second ministerial meeting between the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, hosted by Cambodia. They also affirmed their commitment to further enhance cooperation among the three ministries. In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated them on the fruitful outcomes of the second ministerial meeting. He also recalled the traditional friendship between Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, noting the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Laos diplomatic relations in 2026 and the upcoming 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2027. He emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen and expand relations and cooperation among the three countries. Samdech Thipadei, along with the Laotian and Vietnamese ministers, continued to discuss and exchange views on strengthening and expanding cooperation in the security sector of the three countries. Specifically, they agreed to encourage border provincial authorities to continue close cooperation in maintaining security, aiming to transform border areas into borders of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development. They also committed to further close cooperation in combating transnational crimes, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and technology-based fraud. In conclusion, Samdech Thipadei encouraged the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to continue strengthening and expanding relations and cooperation among the three ministries, which will contribute to strengthening relations and cooperation between the three countries, as well as promoting the strengthening and expansion of cooperation in the economic, trade, and investment sectors.
