Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam Security Ministries Vow to Enhance Cooperation
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with the Ministers of Public Security of Laos and Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, agreeing to strengthen trilateral security cooperation. Key discussions focused on border security, combating transnational crime, and addressing tech-based fraud. This initiative is seen as part of efforts to bolster regional stability, underpinned by traditional friendly relations.
On the morning of June 30, 2026, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call and held discussions with H.E. Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany, Minister of Public Security of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and H.E. Gen. Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, at the Peace Palace. During the meeting, the Ministers of Public Security of Laos and Vietnam highly valued the excellent cooperation between the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam. They stated that this strong cooperation contributes to strengthening and expanding relations and cooperation between the three countries. The Lao and Vietnamese Ministers also reported on the fruitful results of the 2nd Ministerial Meeting between the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, hosted by Cambodia, and affirmed their commitment to further promote cooperation among the three ministries. In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated them on the fruitful outcomes of the 2nd Ministerial Meeting. He recalled the traditional friendship between Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, noting the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Laos diplomatic relations in 2026 and the upcoming 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2027. He also emphasized the importance of further strengthening and expanding relations and cooperation among the three countries. Prime Minister Hun Manet and the Ministers of Public Security of Laos and Vietnam continued to discuss and exchange views on enhancing and expanding security cooperation among the three countries. Specifically, they focused on urging provincial authorities in border areas to continue close cooperation in maintaining security, aiming to transform border areas into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development. They also agreed to further deepen cooperation in combating transnational crimes, human trafficking, drug smuggling, and technology-based fraud. Before concluding, Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Security of Laos, and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to continue strengthening and expanding relations and cooperation among the three ministries, which will contribute to reinforcing relations and cooperation between the three countries, as well as promoting economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Finally, Prime Minister Hun Manet urged for increased exchanges and the strengthening of people-to-people relations and friendship, especially among the youth of the three countries.
