Three men arrested for drinking alcohol on Yangon-Mandalay DEMU express train

It has been reported that three men were arrested and are being prosecuted for drinking alcohol on the DEMU express train running between Yangon and Mandalay. Myanma Railways is operating its routes with new, advanced train carriages to ensure that the public can travel comfortably, safely, and at reasonable prices. However, due to the non-compliance of some passengers with regulations, other passengers have experienced disturbances. Therefore, notices have been issued in state-owned newspapers and on relevant trains, informing passengers to maintain cleanliness throughout their journey, avoid disturbing other passengers, maintain the cleanliness of the train, refrain from spitting, avoid placing their feet on the seats, and use the seats properly so that other passengers can use them cleanly. Despite these announcements, on the morning of July 20, a joint team comprising members of Myanma Railways and the Railway Police Force conducted security checks on the carriages of the Yangon-Mandalay DEMU express train, the third express train departing from Yangon to Mandalay. During these checks, it was discovered that three individuals – Kan Kaung (44 years old) from Htidawmoe Village, Matta District, Mandalay Region, Nyan Po (48 years old) from Sinpangone Village, Tattaungoo Township, and Zaw Lin (48 years old) from Mingalathiri Village, Matta District – who were traveling in first-class carriage 1, seats 1D, 3C, and 4D, were drinking alcohol and were intoxicated, causing disturbance to the public. They were subsequently arrested and detained. A case has been opened at the Ramathine Township Police Station under Section 88(a) of the Myanmar Railways Transportation Business Law, and further legal proceedings are underway.
