Stone-throwing perpetrator on DEMU train running between Yangon and Naypyidaw arrested

It has been learned that the perpetrator who threw stones at the No. 8 Down DEMU train running on the Yangon-Naypyidaw route has been arrested. Myanmar Railways has been operating express passenger trains with new formations of modern air-conditioned DEMU carriages to enable passengers to travel more comfortably. On September 5, at 5:41 PM, the No. 8 Down Naypyidaw-Yangon DEMU express passenger train arrived at its final destination, Yangon Central Station, and at 5:55 PM, it departed for the Insein Diesel Locomotive Shed to retrieve the train formation. While passing between mile posts 3/10 and 3/11 near the entrance of Kyimyindine Station at 6:10 PM, an unidentified person threw stones at the train from a monastery crossing. As a result, approximately two inches of the window glass between seats 3A and 3B of the upper class carriage DEMU (U) 5020 of the train formation was shattered and cracked, it was learned. An investigation was conducted at the scene of the incident, and in order to apprehend the suspect, based on CCTV records, patrols and rounds were conducted to surround and block the area, and a search was carried out along the railway tracks. Around 3:00 AM on September 6, Tin Htun (alias: Ganay Sa), 41 years old (father: U Mann Nyi), residing in Shinmin Ward, Shwebontha Street, Ahlone Township, who was sleeping on the cover of a drain beside the railway track between Ahlone Station and Shan Street Station in Thiri Khama Ward, San Chaung Township, was identified as the same person through comparison with CCTV records. He was arrested and brought to the San Chaung Myoma Police Station, where a case was opened under Section 84 of the Railway Transportation Business Law (P) 361/2026 and investigations are underway. Further investigations revealed that a similar incident of stone-throwing at the first-class carriage of the No. 8 Down DEMU train occurred on September 4. Myanmar Railways, in accordance with Section 79 (b) of Chapter 18 of the Railway Transportation Business Law, promulgated on January 5, 2016, stipulates that anyone who throws objects at a train or commits any other act shall be punished under Section 84 with imprisonment for a term of not less than five years and not exceeding twenty years, and may also be fined. The arrested perpetrators are being punished with imprisonment according to the law. The national government is working to upgrade facilities to ensure smooth travel for the public, and it is necessary for the public to cooperate in maintaining them.
