Hanoi Universities Shift to Online Learning Amid Heavy Rains

Hanoi is currently experiencing record-breaking heavy rains, leading to severe flooding in multiple areas across the city. In response, numerous universities have decided to transition their afternoon classes to online formats, effective from today. This measure prioritizes the safety of students and faculty, mitigating risks associated with commuting in adverse weather conditions. It also aims to prevent disruptions to the academic schedule and ensure the continuity of the educational curriculum. Heavy rainfall warnings are in effect for the northern region of Vietnam, extending from Thanh Hoa Province to the northern part of Quang Tri Province. Hanoi has recorded its heaviest rainfall in three days, with dozens of locations experiencing inundation. Authorities are actively enhancing their response to heavy rains to minimize damage from natural disasters. The impact of the downpour extends beyond university education, with many major roads in Hanoi becoming deeply submerged, causing significant difficulties for residents commuting to work and school. The city is proactively adjusting class schedules and teaching methods in response to weather conditions, preparing for rain and typhoons. Vietnam, a socialist republic under a one-party system, has achieved rapid economic growth. However, in recent years, extreme weather events attributed to climate change have been on the rise.
