Cambodia Cracks Down on Online Scams in Bavet City, Detains 38 Including Vietnamese and Bangladeshi Nationals

Cambodia's Svay Rieng Provincial Police have intensified their crackdown on online scams, detaining 38 individuals from three rental properties in Bavet City. The operation was carried out under the directives of the National Police Chief and the Governor of Svay Rieng Province. On July 31, under the command of the Provincial Police Commissioner, specialized police forces, in cooperation with the Criminal Police Department, the Bavet City Administration Council, and the Provincial Prosecutor's Office, raided three rental houses located in Bavet Kandal village and Bavet Leu village, Bavet City. During the raid, 38 suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in online scamming activities. The detainees include 34 Vietnamese nationals (7 females) and 4 Bangladeshi nationals (males). Numerous pieces of evidence, including all-in-one desktop computers, laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices suspected of being used in the criminal activities, were also confiscated. Currently, the suspects and seized evidence are being processed by the competent authorities and will be forwarded to the Provincial Court for legal proceedings.
