Prabowo Convenes Emergency Meeting with Ministers on National Energy Security
President Prabowo convened a cabinet meeting on September 16th to address domestic energy needs. Ministers of Energy and Mineral Resources indicated their intent to report on utilizing domestic energy potential and advancing the B50 program. The newly appointed Finance Minister also attended and commented on future policies.
President Prabowo Subianto convened a limited cabinet meeting (ratas) with key ministers at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 16th, to discuss measures for fulfilling domestic energy needs. Among those present were the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, and Governor of Bank Indonesia Destry Damayanti. Minister Bahlil told reporters, "Today, we will hold a meeting with the President regarding several steps to fulfill our domestic energy needs." He indicated his intention to report on the utilization of domestic energy potential to promote the B50 program (50% biofuel blend), but refrained from providing specific details. "I will report after the meeting. One of the things we will do is develop and utilize our domestic potential. We will push for above B50," he added. Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara declined to elaborate on his discussions during the meeting, stating, "It will be announced later." This was Nazara's first limited cabinet meeting since his appointment on September 14th, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.
