Prabowo jokes about BI Governor appointment: 'Up to the DPR'

President Prabowo Subianto engaged in a lighthearted exchange with Destry Damayanti, the Acting Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), during an event in Batang Regency, Central Java. While greeting officials and guests, Prabowo corrected the Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning, Maruarar Sirait, who had referred to Destry as the Senior Deputy Governor of BI. "The Minister of Housing was wrong, not Destry, this woman is now an official, the interim governor. So, an official," Prabowo stated. Destry stood up and clasped her hands in response. Prabowo then playfully addressed the audience, asking, "How do you think? Okay, yes (to become BI Governor)?" He followed up by saying, "But, it will depend on the DPR." This interaction occurs in the context of Perry Warjiyo's official resignation as BI Governor, effective July 25, 2026.
