State Administration Council Chairman U Min Aung Hlaing leaves for state-level goodwill visit to Laos

Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister U Min Aung Hlaing, has departed for a state-level goodwill visit to Laos this morning (July 3rd) at the invitation of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith. At the invitation of Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, State Administration Council Chairman U Min Aung Hlaing will pay a state-level goodwill visit to Laos from July 3rd to 5th, accompanied by a high-level delegation. During the visit, the State Administration Council Chairman will hold discussions with the President of Laos, and also meet with the Prime Minister of Laos, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Laos, and receive the Governor of a State. Furthermore, he will visit prominent places and ancient pagodas in Laos, and during the visit, matters concerning the strengthening of existing friendly relations between Myanmar and Laos, and cooperation in economic, cultural, and various other sectors between the governments and peoples of the two countries will be discussed. Accompanying the State Administration Council Chairman on this trip are his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla, Union Ministers, and responsible officials. Laos and Myanmar established diplomatic relations in 1955, and since then, have maintained friendly relations and cooperation in various sectors through bilateral, regional, and international frameworks. Currently, it has been 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and Myanmar. In 2026, a delegation led by Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Thongsaï Phomvihan, made an official visit to Myanmar from June 11th to June 13th. During that visit, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs met with State Administration Council Chairman U Min Aung Hlaing and discussed the long-standing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and the progress of further promotion, the progress of cooperation in political, economic, educational, health, cultural, and trade sectors between the two countries, the status of reciprocal visits by national leaders, the status of promoting trade through the Myanmar-Laos Friendship Bridge, the status of further developing existing friendly relations and cooperation between the peoples through cooperation, the status of enhancing the role in relations not only between the two countries but also with regional countries and ASEAN countries through multi-sector cooperation, the status of Myanmar's cooperation to be the best within ASEAN and the implementation status of the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, the status of continuing to firmly walk the path of multi-party democracy and the efforts of the elected government to achieve domestic peace and national development, the status of Laos' full understanding of the political developments in Myanmar, and the status of jointly facing and overcoming the difficulties encountered by Myanmar and Laos and mutually assisting each other. Furthermore, the Lao President extended an invitation to State Administration Council Chairman U Min Aung Hlaing for a state-level visit to Laos, and the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs handed over the invitation letter to State Administration Council Chairman U Min Aung Hlaing. While serving as the Acting President and Chairman of the State Administration Council, State Administration Council Chairman U Min Aung Hlaing held a private meeting with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, who was in China, in Tianjin in early September 2025 during a working visit to China. They discussed matters concerning the stability and peace of the border areas between the two countries, the status of further promoting friendly relations and cooperation between the governments of the two countries, the status of further expanding the tourism and trade sectors, matters concerning cooperation between the two armies, and matters concerning the continued promotion of cooperation in various other sectors.
