Bangkok Governor Election: Flooding Tops Voters' Priorities

Flooding has emerged as the top priority for Bangkok residents in the wake of the recent gubernatorial election, with nearly one-fifth of voters hoping newly re-elected Governor Chadchart Sittipunt will tackle the issue during the wet season. A survey by King Prajadhipok's Institute, released on Friday, indicated that flood prevention was the primary concern for 19.7% of respondents. This significantly outranked other key issues such as ensuring safety for lives and properties, which garnered 16% of voter priorities, and combating corruption, cited by 14.5% of those surveyed. The poll, conducted from Monday to Thursday among 2,150 eligible voters in Bangkok, followed Governor Chadchart's victory in Sunday's election. The simultaneous Bangkok Metropolitan Council election saw the People's Party secure 22 out of 50 seats, followed by the Working People group with 11, the Democrat Party with eight, and Pheu Thai Life Long Tua with four. Official results for both elections are pending announcement by the Election Commission. Furthermore, the survey indicated that a quarter of Bangkok residents expect city councillors to focus on establishing rules and regulations for public benefit. Another 15% of respondents rely on councillors to monitor the performance of Governor Chadchart and his administrative team.
