AI Summary

Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism is strengthening tourist attraction from Siem Reap-Angkor to various domestic destinations by promoting regional connectivity. A trial 'Siem Reap Tourism Service Mega Sale' will be launched in 2026 to increase tourist stays and spending.

The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the provincial administration of Siem Reap, has presided over the closing ceremony of a workshop focused on 'Promoting Connectivity of Tourism Destinations from Siem Reap-Angkor to Various Tourist Areas within the Kingdom of Cambodia.' The workshop's theme was 'Developing Tourism Products and Joint Promotion to Enhance the Competitiveness of Cambodia's Tourism Sector.' During the event, the trial implementation of the '2026 Siem Reap Tourism Service Mega Sale' was also announced. Minister of Tourism, H.E. Thong Hak, and Governor of Siem Reap Province, H.E. Prak Sophorn, co-chaired the significant closing ceremony. Approximately 500 participants attended, including leaders from the Ministry of Tourism, provincial deputy governors, directors of provincial tourism departments, and representatives from the private sector, tourism associations, and tourism operators. The workshop's primary objective was to accelerate and enhance the flow of tourists from the Siem Reap-Angkor heritage area to other destinations across the country. This is to be achieved through the development of new tourism products, the organization of cluster destination tour packages, and joint marketing and promotion efforts between provincial administrations, tourism industry associations, and the private sector. The ultimate goal is to increase the length of stay, spending, and travel to a wider range of destinations by tourists. In his address, Minister Thong Hak highlighted that connecting tourism destinations is a vital mechanism for extending the benefits of tourism from key sites to communities and provinces with related potential. He stressed the importance of developing diverse, innovative, attractive, and reasonably priced tour packages. The Minister further elaborated on the organization of three cluster destination tour packages: the Northern and Northwestern cluster, encompassing Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Preah Vihear; the Coastal cluster, including Kep, Kampot, Sihanoukville, and Koh Kong; and the Northeastern cluster, comprising Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, and Ratanakiri. During the meaningful occasion, Minister Thong Hak officially announced the trial implementation of the '2026 Siem Reap Tourism Service Mega Sale.' This program is designed to support the 'Visit Cambodia in the Green Season 2026' campaign and invigorate tourism activities in Siem Reap Province. The sale will offer special discounts ranging from 10% to 50% on select tourism services, including accommodation, spa services, and other related offerings. Minister Thong Hak also encouraged provincial and municipal administrations and tourism departments to continue building their unique identities and branding, creating iconic locations, enhancing aesthetics, cleanliness, and green spaces, and developing new tourism products. He also urged for more active implementation of the 'One Month, One Event or One Province, One Event' campaign. Concurrently, the Minister appealed to tourism industry associations and operators to continue creating and updating one-day, two-day, and three-day tour packages. This preparation is to receive and leverage benefits from significant international events, especially the Francophonie Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Cambodia in November 2026. Specifically, Minister Thong Hak emphasized the collaboration between the government, sub-national administrations, the private sector, and tourism industry associations. He stated that adherence to the spirit of 'thinking together, acting together, taking responsibility together, and reaping benefits together' is the crucial foundation for driving Cambodia's tourism sector towards continued growth, competitiveness, and sustainability.
