Cambodia Seeks Expanded Scholarships and Nursing Training from Korean University

The Cambodian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mr. Khoun Phonratana, has requested Konyang University to consider expanding cooperation with Cambodia by increasing scholarship quotas for Cambodian students, establishing nursing training programs, and fostering collaboration with the National Defense University of Cambodia. This proposal was made during a working meeting between Mr. Khoun Phonratana and Mr. Kim Yong-ha, President of Konyang University, on Friday, September 4, 2026, in Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Republic of Korea. During the meeting, Mr. Khoun Phonratana put forward three initiatives: 1. Requesting the university to explore the possibility of providing additional scholarship quotas for Cambodian students. 2. Establishing a nursing training program. 3. Creating cooperative ties with the National Defense University of Cambodia. In response, the President informed the Ambassador that Konyang University is a private institution specializing in medical and military industrial fields. He also mentioned past cooperative projects between the university and the Cambodian Ministry of Health, including a training program in ophthalmology for doctors at Ang Doung Hospital and a scholarship program for Cambodian students to pursue further medical studies at the university.
