Tropical Depression Luis Makes Landfall in Isabela; Pagasa Urges Vigilance

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Luis made landfall over Maconacon, Isabela, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, the state weather bureau said. In an advisory issued shortly after the landfall, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) urged the public to continue monitoring updates from the state weather bureau. Luis was located east of the country, moving west at about 10 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 75 kilometers per hour. Pagasa hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Isabela, Cagayan, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Quirino, Batanes, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, and parts of Metro Manila. Isabela is located in the northeastern part of Luzon and has experienced typhoons and tropical depressions in the past. The landfall of Luis is expected to cause damage to crops and infrastructure in the region. Pagasa continues to issue updates on the path and intensity of the depression, urging the public to remain vigilant. The Philippines is currently in its rainy season, and similar weather phenomena may occur in the future.
