State Government Holds Grand Ceremony for 2026 Waso Robe Offering

The grand ceremony for the 2026 Waso robe offering by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held this morning (July 24) at the Aggadhipa Sasana Viman Hall within the Maravijaya Buddha Park in Dakkhinathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, the federal territory. It was reported that President U Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla attended the ceremony, paid homage, and offered Waso robes and alms. It was reported that 27 invited senior monks, including the Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Chief Abbot of the Minchaung First Recitation Monastery in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region, Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru, Agga Maha Pandita, Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja Dr. Bhaddanta Chandimabhivamsa, and the Executive Officer of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Chief Abbot of the new Masoein Monastery in Mandalay, Agga Maha Pandita, Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotikadhaja, Maha Dhamma Kathika Bahujanahitadhara Bhaddanta Vasetthabhivamsa, led by the senior monks who are the advisors to the Upattasantiseti Pagoda Board of Trustees, attended the ceremony. Following this, the President first paid homage to the Maravijaya Buddha image, the elder brother, located within the Sasana Viman Hall, and offered the Buddha's alms bowl, fruits, flowers, drinking water, and lamps. The ceremony commenced with the chanting of "Namo Tassa" three times, followed by the President and his wife, and other attendees, receiving the Nine Precepts from the Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Thanlyin Minchaung high monk, and observing them. They then listened to and paid homage to the protective sermons delivered by the senior monks. Subsequently, President U Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla offered Waso robes and alms to the Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the Thanlyin Minchaung high monk. Vice President U Nyo So and his wife offered Waso robes and alms to the Executive Officer of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the high monk of the new Masoein Monastery, it was reported. Following this, the Speakers of the Hluttaws and their wives, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and his wife, the Chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal, the Chairman of the Union Election Commission, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and Chief of Army Staff, the Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, and Union Ministers offered Waso robes and alms to the senior monks and monks, it was reported. After listening to the sermon of appreciation from the Executive Officer of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, the high monk of the new Masoein Monastery, water was poured to share the merits of the donations, and the ceremony concluded with the chanting of "Saddhamma Jotikadhaja" three times for blessings.
