Garuda Indonesia Resumes Jakarta Flights After Volcanic Ash Disruption
Garuda Indonesia will gradually resume flights to and from Jakarta starting September 8, after a temporary suspension due to volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption. The airline assures safety measures and coordination with authorities.
JAKARTA - Garuda Indonesia will gradually serve flights to and from Jakarta starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 00.01 WIB. The resumption of flights was carried out in conjunction with the reopening of airport operations, which had previously been affected by the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. Garuda Indonesia management said the reopening of flights was carried out after the airport's operational decision to resume flight service. "As the airport operations reopen, Garuda Indonesia will begin serving flights to and from Jakarta gradually on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 starting at 00.01 WIB," wrote Garuda Indonesia management via its official Instagram account, quoted Monday, September 7. As is known, the government closed a number of commercial airports around the affected area of volcanic ash spread due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. The airports are Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, Radin Inten II Airport in Lampung, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta, and Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung, West Java. Garuda management urges passengers who have flight tickets starting at 00.01 WIB on Tuesday to come to the airport three hours before the departure schedule. This step was taken to give passengers enough time to undergo the departure process after the adjustment of flight operations. Garuda Indonesia also ensures that each flight will be operated by taking into account safety aspects. Before flying, the airline conducted safety assessments and aircraft airworthiness inspections for potential impacts of volcanic ash spread. Flight operations are also carried out based on the results of coordination with related authorities. "We understand how important travel certainty is for you," the management wrote.
