Cambodia Braces for Rain and Thunderstorms as Tropical Depressions Loom

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia announced on August 8th that tropical depressions Chan-hom (T2615) and Dolphin (T2613) are influencing the southwest monsoon, affecting the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the entire Kingdom of Cambodia. However, Cambodia itself is not in the direct path of these two storms. The ministry stated that this weather situation is expected to persist from August 8th to 10th, 2026. Forecasts by region are as follows: 1. Lowland areas: Average minimum temperature of 25°C and maximum of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and northwest are expected at an average speed of 3 meters/second. Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal provinces, and Phnom Penh capital city may experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 40% of the land area. 2. Highland areas: Average minimum temperature of 24°C and maximum of 34°C. Winds from the southwest and west are expected at an average speed of 4 meters/second. Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri provinces, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom Mountains region may experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 70% of the land area. 3. Coastal areas: Average minimum temperature of 25°C and maximum of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast are expected at an average speed of 2 meters/second. Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep provinces, and the Bokor mountain area may experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 50% of the land area.
