Senate Urges Court to Lift TRO on P85 NCR Minimum Wage Hike

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Wednesday called for the immediate lifting of a temporary restraining order (TRO) that halted the implementation of the P85 daily minimum wage increase in the National Capital Region (NCR) as it adopted Proposed Senate Resolution No. 577. In sponsoring the resolution, Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said, "We believe this minimum wage hike is a crucial step towards improving the living standards of our workers and their families, and in stimulating our economy." The minimum wage hike is expected to boost domestic consumption by increasing the purchasing power of workers, thereby contributing to economic growth. However, concerns have been raised by some businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, that the increase in labor costs could strain their operations. The Senate hopes that with the lifting of the TRO, the minimum wage increase will be implemented promptly, leading to improved livelihoods for many Filipinos, especially those in the low-income bracket.
