Vietnam Ready to Deepen Strategic Partnership with Canada

Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam, during his visit to Canada, affirmed the intention to further develop the bilateral relationship in a more substantive and effective manner, building on the elevated 'Strategic Partnership'. This partnership, anchored in eight pillars, aims to address shared challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and contribute to a more secure, prosperous, and dynamic Indo-Pacific region. General Secretary and President To Lam regarded Canada as a friend and a trusted partner with which Vietnam shares many common interests and strategic perspectives. He expressed hope that the visit will open a new chapter in Vietnam-Canada relations, reflecting a new level of political trust, increasingly close alignment of interests and visions, as well as the determination of both countries to build a long-term, stable, and substantive relationship, making it a model of cooperation between two countries on opposite sides of the Pacific Ocean. Emphasis was placed on increasing delegation exchanges and contacts among parliamentarians, specialized committees, women parliamentarians, and young parliamentarians of both countries. Promoting joint activities and the sharing of experience in legislation and oversight is expected to contribute to building broad consensus within the Canadian Parliament and society on strengthening relations with Vietnam. Vietnam consistently attaches importance to its relations with Canada and highly valued the important progress in bilateral relations after nearly a decade of implementing the Comprehensive Partnership framework. General Secretary and President To Lam anticipates that this visit will generate strong political momentum to foster an increasingly substantive, balanced, and effective Vietnam-Canada relationship, in line with the potential, strengths, and needs of both nations. Vietnam aims to make the relationship with Canada a model of cooperation between two countries on opposite sides of the Pacific Ocean, and the deepening of the Strategic Partnership marks a significant step towards achieving that goal.
