Cambodia Inaugurates Sri Lankan Honorary Consulate, Strengthening Bilateral Ties
An honorary consulate of Sri Lanka has been inaugurated in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This move is expected to enhance economic cooperation, trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.
On the morning of August 5, 2026, an inauguration ceremony was held for the Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. The event was attended by high-ranking Cambodian officials including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, and Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. Oun Khang. Also present were Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe and the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Mr. Pily WONG. Senior leaders and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Interior also participated. In his opening remarks, Dr. Oun Khang highlighted the importance of fostering friendship and bilateral relations between Cambodia and Sri Lanka. He stated that the establishment of the Sri Lankan Honorary Consulate marks another significant step in further strengthening ties between the two nations. Furthermore, the honorary consulate is expected to serve as an effective bridge for enhancing economic cooperation, facilitating business and tourism, promoting exchanges between the peoples of both countries, and providing consular support to their citizens. Dr. Oun Khang also noted that the foreign ministries of both countries are currently discussing to find a suitable time to organize the first bilateral consultation at the earliest possible opportunity.
