Minister of Culture Fadli Zon wants to make cultural diplomacy a main door to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Canada. This idea was conveyed by Fadli during a dialogue with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador (LBBP) of the Republic of Indonesia to Canada, Muhsin Syihab, at the Ministry of Culture Office in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Fadli stated that Indonesia's diverse culture is an added value in bilateral cooperation, and cultural diplomacy has proven effective in building soft power or a country's influence through culture, rather than military or economic might. The film industry is considered one of the most effective instruments. Fadli sees that Canada hosts several international film festivals that can open wider avenues for Indonesian filmmakers. He believes events like the Toronto International Film Festival and the Montreal International Film Festival can serve as showcases for Indonesian films to reach the global market.
