Cambodia's Environment Ministry Blocks Over 2 Million Cubic Meters of Wastewater in July 2026

The Ministry of Environment in Cambodia is actively implementing measures to prevent the discharge of wastewater from factories, enterprises, and other polluting sources. In July 2026, the ministry intercepted and blocked a total of 2,270,285 cubic meters of wastewater, preventing it from flowing into natural water resources. Concurrently, the Ministry of Environment managed 73,235 cubic meters of wastewater to prevent its discharge outside business premises, thereby minimizing the impact on public and natural water bodies across the country. These achievements are a result of the Ministry of Environment's efforts in enforcing environmental laws and its commitment to the first pillar of the "Strategic Framework for the Environment Sector," which focuses on cleanliness (water, soil, and air). The Ministry of Environment also expressed its gratitude to the owners of companies, factories, and enterprises for their cooperation in complying with the law, installing automatic monitoring devices for liquid waste, and participating in reducing wastewater discharge into natural water sources. This collective effort aims to protect public health and maintain cleanliness in Cambodia. It is noteworthy that 64 companies, factories, and enterprises have installed self-monitoring devices for liquid waste discharge, as stipulated in Article 178 of the Law on Environment and Natural Resources. From January 2025 to the end of July 2026, the Ministry of Environment has blocked over 35 million cubic meters (35,235,003 cubic meters) of wastewater from being discharged into natural water sources. Specifically, during the first seven months of 2026 (January-July), more than 15,160,730 cubic meters of wastewater were inspected and prevented from polluting the environment.
