Ex-DPWH chief Bonoan released from PNP custody

MANILA, Philippines — Former Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel “Manny” Bonoan was released from the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday, following an order from the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division. Bonoan was turned over by the PNP–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group National Capital Region (CIDG NCR) to his family and left the PNP General Headquarters. The release came after Bonoan was charged with corruption-related offenses. The Sandiganbayan issued the order after confirming that the conditions for his bail had been met. The amount for Bonoan’s bail was set by the court. Corruption remains a significant concern in the Philippines, with the government working to combat it through law enforcement.
