Indonesia Prepares Funding Scheme for E10 Bioethanol Rollout

Indonesia is preparing a funding scheme to support the rollout of E10 fuel, which mandates a 10% blend of bioethanol with gasoline. This initiative aims to encourage domestic bioethanol production and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources explained that the funding scheme will serve as an incentive for bioethanol producers. While the specific subsidy amounts, eligible producers, and implementation timeline are still under consideration, the plan is expected to foster the growth of industries that produce bioethanol from domestic agricultural products such as sugarcane and palm oil. As one of the world's largest palm oil producers, Indonesia possesses significant potential for bioethanol production. The introduction of E10 could also lead to increased added value for domestic agricultural products and revitalize rural economies. Concerns have also been raised regarding potential competition with food production and land use issues associated with bioethanol production. The government intends to concurrently consider regulations to ensure sustainable production methods and minimize environmental impact.
