Scam Impersonating Bali Bank Exploits Indonesian Independence Day

A fraudulent link prompting participation in a prize draw campaign, impersonating Bank BPD Bali (the provincial-owned bank of Bali), has been found circulating on Facebook in Indonesia. Liputan6.com's fact-checking division investigated and found that the information was posted on July 30, inviting users to join a special prize draw celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day (HUT RI). The purported prizes include hundreds of millions of Rupiah in cash, new cars, motorcycles, overseas travel tickets, and large-screen televisions. The post claims "100% FREE" and instructs users to click a "Learn More" button, which leads to a section requesting personal information such as name, WhatsApp number, and current account balance. However, BPD Bali has warned the public about such scams in an article titled "Beware of Fake Lottery Schemes!" on its official website. The bank explicitly states that it has never conducted any prize draws through unofficial websites, fake social media accounts, individual WhatsApp messages, or unverified online registration links. It urges the public, referred to as "Semeton" in Bali, to immediately identify as scams any accounts, messages, or websites impersonating BPD Bali and requesting personal or confidential banking information like Debit/Credit Card numbers, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTP), and CVVs.
