Cambodia Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms as Tropical Depression 'Dolphin' Approaches

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on July 29, 2026, that Tropical Depression 'Dolphin' is expected to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Cambodia from July 29 to July 31. The tropical depression, which developed from a low-pressure system in the Western Pacific, is influencing the Southwest Monsoon and is projected to affect the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, the South China Sea, the Mekong River basin, the Cambodian seas, and the entire Kingdom of Cambodia. According to the forecast for July 29 to July 31: 1. Plains Region: Temperatures will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 36°C. Winds blowing from the southwest and west will have an average speed of 3 meters per second. Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital will experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds covering 30% of the land area. 2. Highland Region: Temperatures will range from a minimum of 24°C to a maximum of 35°C. Winds blowing from the southwest and west will have an average speed of 4 meters per second. Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom mountain range will experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds covering 50% of the land area. 3. Coastal Region: Temperatures will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 35°C. Winds blowing from the southwest and southeast will have an average speed of 2 meters per second. Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range will experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds covering 60% of the land area. Sea waves are expected to be between 0.50 meters and 1.75 meters in height. The public is advised to be aware of these weather conditions.
