Ahead of a high-level visit by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam to the US from September 20, experts highlight significant potential for deepening the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Professor Piper Campbell described 2026 as an active year for Vietnam-US relations, noting ample room for enhanced cooperation. Overseas Vietnamese (OV) entrepreneurs are seen as a valuable source of knowledge, science-technology, management expertise, finance, investment, and international relations that can contribute to Vietnam's development. The upcoming trip is expected to inject fresh impetus and concrete measures to further develop the bilateral partnership, while reaffirming Vietnam's contributions to global issues. In the economic sphere, international companies like Red Bull express confidence in the Vietnamese market's development prospects and seek to expand connections with Vietnamese partners. The securities market upgrade scheme, effective September 2025, aims to enhance market transparency. Vietnam has also emerged among the world's 10 most improved real estate markets in terms of transparency for the 2024-26 period, according to JLL. Vietnam is also strengthening its commitment to green transition, including promoting green, low-emission rice production and ensuring the electronics industry's access to global supply chains. This focus is crucial for maintaining competitiveness in international markets. At the local level, Hai Phong city is committed to building an enabling administration and providing superior services to residents and the business community. An Giang province plans to showcase its urban development, key industries, and investment prospects, along with signature agricultural and forestry products. A strategic Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam Industrial Park Supply Enterprises Association and the Korea-Vietnam Association of Science and Technology aims to support thousands of firms in global expansion. Infrastructure development is also a priority, with the Son La-Dien Bien-Tay Trang Border Gate expressway expected to reduce cargo transport costs and time, attracting investment in warehousing, logistics, processing, and distribution. The Vietnam Seaports Association plans to promote green port development, focusing on energy management, emission reduction, electrification, and renewable energy. In the automotive sector, Kim Long Motor's first international shipment of finished buses via a dedicated roll-on/roll-off vessel marks a new development in logistics capacity and port connectivity in the central region. VinFast plans to continue its customer-centric operations and expand service capacity in key markets. Exports of Norwegian salmon to Vietnam have seen a significant increase, reaching approximately 7,900 tonnes in 2025, a 40% rise from the previous year. The government is also reviewing legislation across economic activities to support the green and circular transition and is adjusting market access restrictions for foreign investors to focus on quality and efficiency amid changing global capital flows and technology.
