Inflation, graft remain top concerns of Filipinos – Pulse Asia

MANILA, Philippines — The majority of Filipinos consider controlling inflation and eradicating graft and corruption as their most urgent national concerns, according to a recent Pulse Asia survey. The poll, conducted from June 28 to July 3, found that 57 percent of respondents cited inflation control as a top priority, followed by fighting graft and corruption (including holding corrupt officials accountable) at 40 percent, and increasing workers' pay at 36 percent. These issues were also the top three concerns in the previous survey in March 2026, indicating a persistent public sentiment. Respondents were allowed to select up to three issues. Inflation control was the most urgent concern across all regions, with the highest figures in the Visayas (65 percent), followed by the rest of Luzon (57 percent), Metro Manila (55 percent), and Mindanao (50 percent). Other significant concerns included poverty reduction (26 percent), fighting criminality (22 percent), combating illegal drugs (19 percent), and job creation (15 percent). Issues such as aid for farmers, tax reduction, environmental protection, and support for small businesses were mentioned by less than 10 percent of respondents. The survey involved 2,400 participants with a margin of error of plus or minus two percent. The Philippines' economy has been grappling with global inflationary pressures, leading to rising costs for food and energy. While the government has implemented measures to stabilize prices, the impact on daily life remains substantial. Corruption has also been a persistent structural issue in Philippine society for many years. Addressing these concerns is crucial for the Marcos administration's approval ratings and public trust.
