The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications, U Thet Win Aung, stated that internet companies holding telecommunications service business licenses will face legal action if they fail to provide services, and users can report such failures. This was in response to a star question raised by U Aye Chan, a Member of Parliament for the Hlaingthaya (East) constituency, during the 29th day of the second regular session of the third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, held on July 24. Member of Parliament U Aye Chan had asked a star question seeking to know about the actions taken against companies whose performance is falling below contractual capabilities, and to inspect and release the performance of internet service providers. In response to the question, Deputy Minister U Thet Win Aung stated that if the internet line is disconnected, the relevant company should be notified, and if services cannot be provided, users can contact and report it, and legal action will be taken. Those wishing to report can contact the Directorate of Telecommunications via email at [email protected] or the Department of Consumer Affairs via the Consumer Call Center phone number 1535. According to the statement by Deputy Minister U Thet Win Aung, the Department of Consumer Affairs has received a total of 2,200 complaints related to telecommunications services from 2017 to July 20, 2023, of which 2,192 cases have been resolved and are being handled, while the remaining 8 cases are still being resolved.
