Mysterious 'Hoodie Man' Suspected in Serial Arson Attempts in Bandung-Cimahi

A series of attempted arson incidents involving an unidentified man wearing a black hoodie has caused unease among residents in Bandung and Cimahi, West Java, Indonesia. At least three separate locations were targeted between July 31 and August 4. All incidents occurred in the early morning, with the suspect consistently described as wearing a black hoodie and carrying a backpack. The first incident occurred on a street in Cimahi City. According to CCTV footage, the man set fire to the tarp of a street vendor's cart. Fortunately, residents quickly extinguished the flames, preventing significant damage to the cart. The vendor expressed bewilderment as to why their livelihood was targeted. Following this, on August 2, a home in a residential area of Bandung City was targeted when the Indonesian flag displayed in front of a house was set ablaze. CCTV captured the man igniting the flag before quickly leaving the scene. Again, passersby managed to put out the fire, averting a larger blaze that could have spread to the house. Most recently, in the early hours of August 4, an arson attempt on a building took place in the Karasak area of Bandung City. A man fitting the same description was seen at this scene, leading police to strongly suspect a connection to the previous incidents. This fire required the intervention of the fire department. Authorities have not yet definitively determined if these incidents were carried out by a single perpetrator or a related group, but investigations are ongoing. The motive behind the attacks remains unknown, with speculation that the targets may have been chosen randomly.
