Cambodia Braces for Three Days of Rain, Thunderstorms

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a notification on July 22, 2026, stating that a low-pressure system covering the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, and Cambodian Sea is influencing the southwest monsoon blowing over the Kingdom of Cambodia. The ministry indicated that this weather pattern will affect some areas within Cambodia for three days, from July 22 to July 24, 2026. The affected areas include: 1. Plains Areas: Average minimum temperature of 25°C and average maximum temperature of 36°C. Winds from the southwest and northeast will blow at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh are expected to experience rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 15% of their land area. 2. Plateau Areas: Average minimum temperature of 24°C and average maximum temperature of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and west will blow at an average speed of 4 meters per second. Provinces like Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, the Dangrek Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains are expected to have rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 30% of their land area. Mondulkiri province is not expected to receive rain. 3. Coastal Areas: Average minimum temperature of 25°C and average maximum temperature of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast will blow at an average speed of 2 meters per second. Provinces such as Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, and the Bokor Mountains may experience rain mixed with thunderstorms and gusty winds covering 20% of their land area. Kampot and Kep provinces are not expected to receive rain. Sea waves are expected to have an average height of 0.50 meters and a maximum height of 1.50 meters.
