Cambodia Reviews Progress on Drought Intervention in Battambang, Committee Directs Farmer Support

On July 25, 2026, Cambodia's National Committee for Disaster Management, led by First Vice-Chairman Dr. Kith Meng, inspected the progress of drought intervention for farmers in the Sangke district of Battambang province. The inspection covered Katch Rotes, Oar Touk, and Sala Trab villages in Kamphong Phrien commune. In his capacity as the government's chief of staff, Dr. Meng coordinated with the Battambang Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, and the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries. These departments, in collaboration with local authorities and communities, are working to continue water distribution from upstream water retention structures to save farmers' crops. Based on the on-site inspection, Dr. Meng praised the efforts of the relevant technical departments and the Battambang Provincial Administration in intervening to supply water to save the rice crops in the three villages, which faced water shortages last week. During the occasion, Dr. Meng also met with farmers to listen to their concerns and find solutions. He advised authorities and communities to continuously monitor the water supply to the lower agricultural lands that can be irrigated. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to ensuring agricultural stability and supporting rural livelihoods amidst climate-related challenges.
