Yangon-Mandalay Expressway mandates Telematics GPS installation for over 3,500 passenger vehicles and 2,500 freight vehicles

It is understood that passenger vehicles and freight vehicles, which are permitted to carry only 14 specified types of goods, will only be allowed to use the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway after installing Telematics GPS systems. Services for installing Telematics GPS systems on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway began in June 2024, and as of September 9, Telematics systems have been installed on 3,525 passenger vehicles and 2,512 freight vehicles. Furthermore, the Telematics Command & Control Center at the Nay Pyi Taw-See Laan toll gate provides a 24-hour service, warning passenger vehicles traveling on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway via telephone to ensure they drive within the designated speed limit (90 km/h) and do not stop in areas where stopping is prohibited. U Myo Myint, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Construction, visited and inspected the operations of the Telematics Command & Control Center on September 9. Following this, CCTV rooms at the toll gates on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway (Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw section), the toll collection system, technological implementations, the movement of vehicles passing through the lanes, and the toll gate buildings were inspected. During the inspection, instructions were given to carry out renovation and maintenance work on the toll gate buildings in accordance with specified standards, to supervise and ensure that vehicles do not exceed their designated tonnage, to always maintain the toll gate's TFI Display Boards, barrier arms, lanes, CCTV cameras, computers, and related equipment in good condition, to report any damage to equipment promptly, and to ensure that the statistics of road usage fees collected are systematic and accurate. During the trip, the progress of asphalt concrete paving work along the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, road and bridge maintenance work, tree planting on the median and roadside, and the construction site of the Swa Chaung Bridge (outbound lane) were inspected, and operational instructions were given.
