Cambodia and Myanmar Agree to Strengthen Bilateral, Regional, and Global Cooperation
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing met in Phnom Penh on September 11, agreeing to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors including economy, trade, investment, tourism, security, education, and combating cyber fraud. Both nations also affirmed mutual support on regional and international platforms.
Phnom Penh, September 11, 2026 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet held a bilateral meeting with President Min Aung Hlaing of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and a high-level delegation at the Peace Palace on the afternoon of September 11, 2026. The meeting was part of the President's state visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from September 11 to September 12, 2026. During the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Manet warmly welcomed the distinguished presence of President Min Aung Hlaing and his delegation, noting that the visit reflects the continued nurturing of bilateral friendship and the strengthening of relations and cooperation between the two countries. In response, President Min Aung Hlaing expressed his profound gratitude to the government and people of Cambodia, as well as to Prime Minister Hun Manet, for the warm, close, and fraternal hospitality. He also highly praised Cambodia's rapid development and modernization, stating that through this state visit, his first as President, he has clearly seen the new face of the Kingdom of Cambodia compared to his visit in 2017. He considers Cambodia a good, close friend who has consistently supported the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, both within the ASEAN framework and globally, especially during Cambodia's ASEAN chairmanship in 2022. Prime Minister Hun Manet and President Min Aung Hlaing also discussed and exchanged views aimed at promoting and strengthening bilateral cooperation in several priority areas, including economy, trade and investment, tourism, security and defense, education and human resource development, religious affairs, and combating technological fraud. They also supported each other within regional and global frameworks. Before concluding, the Prime Minister and the President discussed and committed to enhancing cooperation between Cambodia, Myanmar, and the region to combat cross-border crimes more effectively, particularly human trafficking, drug trafficking, and technological crimes.
