Cambodia, Myanmar Leaders Vow to Bolster Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Sept 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing vowed Friday to deepen cooperation across bilateral, regional and global frameworks during talks at Phnom Penh’s Peace Palace. Samdech Thipadei welcomed Min Aung Hlaing and his delegation, describing the state visit as a contribution to nurturing the longstanding friendship and solidarity between the two countries. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to expanding ties for the mutual benefit of both peoples. Min Aung Hlaing expressed gratitude for Cambodia’s hospitality and praised the Kingdom’s rapid development, noting the transformation since his last visit in 2017. He highlighted Cambodia’s support for Myanmar within ASEAN and internationally, particularly during Cambodia’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2022. The leaders discussed cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, security and defence, education, religious affairs and combating technology‑enabled fraud. They also stressed the importance of coordination in regional and international forums to promote peace, stability and prosperity. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to tackling transnational crime, with emphasis on human trafficking, drug trafficking and cybercrime. The visit underscored Cambodia and Myanmar’s shared determination to strengthen bilateral ties while contributing to wider regional cooperation and sustainable development.
