Cambodia Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms Over Several Days Due to Tropical Depression Influence
Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has announced that the country will experience rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across most of its territory from September 2nd to 4th, influenced by two tropical depressions. Coastal areas face a 50% chance of impact.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced on September 2nd that a low-pressure area over the western Pacific Ocean has evolved into tropical depressions named Krovanh (T2624) and Saudel (T2618). These systems are influencing the southwest monsoon winds blowing over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, Cambodia is not directly in the path of these storms. The Ministry stated that this weather pattern is expected to affect certain areas of the Kingdom of Cambodia for four days, from September 2nd to 4th, 2026. The affected regions include: 1. Plains Areas: Average temperature will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 36°C. Winds from the southwest and northwest will blow at an average speed of 7 meters per second. Provinces such as Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital city may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts, covering 20% of the land area. 2. High Plateau Areas: Average temperature will range from a minimum of 24°C to a maximum of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and west will blow at an average speed of 8 meters per second. Provinces like Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratié, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dângrêk Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains region may experience rain with thunderstorms and gusts, covering 40% of the land area. 3. Coastal Areas: Average temperature will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 34°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast will blow at an average speed of 10 meters per second. Provinces such as Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountain area may experience rain with thunderstorms and gusts, covering 50% of the land area. Sea waves are expected to have an average height ranging from a minimum of 0.50 meters to a maximum of 1.75 meters. These weather advisories may cause temporary disruptions to agriculture, infrastructure, and daily life in Cambodia.
