Cambodia Forecast: Widespread Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Due to Low Pressure Systems
Cambodia is expected to experience widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds from September 4th to 6th, influenced by two tropical depressions, Krovanh and Saudel. Higher elevations are particularly prone to rainfall.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia has issued a weather forecast for September 4, 2026, indicating that widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected across the country. This weather situation is attributed to the influence of two tropical depressions, Krovanh (T2624) and Saudel (T2618), which are affecting the southwest monsoon and subsequently impacting the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia as a whole. Although Cambodia is not directly in the path of these storms, the following weather conditions are predicted for different regions from September 4th to 6th, 2026: In the plains, temperatures will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 36°C, with winds blowing from the southwest and northwest at an average speed of 7 meters per second. Areas in Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital will experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds covering 30% of their land area. In the highlands, temperatures will range from a minimum of 24°C to a maximum of 35°C, with winds blowing from the southwest and west at an average speed of 8 meters per second. Provinces such as Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratié, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, and the Cardamom Mountains region will see rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds covering 50% of their land area. In coastal areas, temperatures will range from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 34°C, with winds blowing from the southwest and southeast at an average speed of 10 meters per second. Coastal provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountain area will experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds covering 30% of their land area. Sea waves are expected to range from a minimum average height of 0.50 meters to a maximum average height of 1.70 meters. The public is advised to take note of this weather information.
