President Prabowo Inaugurates New Tourist Train 'Nusantara Explorer'

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia took his first ride on the 'Nusantara Explorer,' a new luxury tourist train launched by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), on Thursday (30/7/2026). The train is a new service from PT KAI that offers first-class facilities for passengers. Based on Liputan6.com's observation, Prabowo boarded the Nusantara Explorer train from Semarang Tawang Station in Central Java around 11:45 AM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Prabowo first inaugurated the first phase of revitalization for Semarang Tawang Station. "This is the first time I'm going to ride (the Nusantara Explorer)," Prabowo said briefly before trying the train. Prabowo then entered a carriage that had been modified for seating and relaxation. The carriage displayed a luxurious impression and featured sofas. He expressed his gratitude to PT KAI for launching the Nusantara Explorer. Prabowo hopes that the train can boost Indonesia's tourism sector. "Thank you Kereta Api Indonesia, and today I will try the new train launched by KAI to support tourism, which is named Nusantara Explorer," Prabowo explained. Prabowo also invited media personnel and several ministers to join the ride on the Nusantara Explorer. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The Nusantara Explorer train, on which Prabowo was riding, stopped in Batang, Central Java. In Batang, Prabowo will inaugurate the implementation of mass contracts for 62,000 subsidized housing units in 165 locations across 372 regencies/cities in 36 provinces. The Nusantara Explorer is a modified passenger train developed by PT KAI in accordance with the President's directive to provide more representative and comfortable transportation services, showcasing a new face for Indonesian railways. The train has several superior features, ranging from its elegant and modern design, premium comfort, to being instagrammable and offering a high-class experience. Prabowo is planned to return to Jakarta using the Nusantara Explorer.
