M4.3 Earthquake Jolts Cianjur, West Java, Felt in Jakarta and Bandung

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.3 jolted Cianjur, West Java. The earthquake was reported to have occurred on Tuesday (1/9/206) at 17:53 WIB, with its epicenter located inland at 6.91 LS and 107.10 BT, precisely 10 km southwest of Cianjur Regency, West Java, at a depth of 4 km (previously reported as 5 km). Besides several areas in Cianjur, the earthquake was reportedly felt in various regions. One of them was Bandung City. In Bandung, the earthquake was felt as a light tremor for a few seconds. Similar tremors were also felt in several areas of Sukabumi, Depok, and even Jakarta. Hartanto, Head of BMKG Wilayah II Tangerang Selatan, stated in an official release that based on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake was a shallow earthquake caused by active fault activity. Meanwhile, as of 18:15 WIB, BMKG monitoring results have not shown any subsequent earthquake activity. BMKG also urges the public to ensure that official information only comes from BMKG, disseminated through verified official communication channels.
