An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck near Cianjur, West Java, on Thursday (1/9/2026) at around 5:53 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 6.9 degrees South Latitude and 107.09 degrees East Longitude, with a depth of 10 km. The 4.4 magnitude earthquake was also felt in DKI Jakarta. In the Gondangdia area of Central Jakarta, the earthquake was quite noticeable. Office workers felt the tremors for several moments, causing their laptops and desks to shake. "It was quite shaky. My laptop and desk even wobbled," said Faiz, a worker in the Gondangdia area. Some employees who were still active in their offices experienced momentary panic due to the earthquake. As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or building damage resulting from the earthquake. The BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant and follow the directives from BMKG and local authorities.
