Massive Warehouse Fire in Hanoi Outskirts; Nearly 100 Firefighters Deployed

A large-scale fire occurred at a warehouse complex in Son Dong commune, Hanoi, on the evening of September 23rd. The fire, reported around 9:06 PM, engulfed warehouses and workshops spanning over 2,000 square meters (on a total land area of approximately 6,700 square meters). Given the complex's significant scale and the high risk of spreading to adjacent warehouses, the Hanoi City Police promptly mobilized nearly 100 firefighters from Firefighting and Rescue Police Teams 2, 15, 16, 17, 23, and 29, along with 22 specialized vehicles, to the scene. At the site, the primary burning materials included wood, plastic, paper, and nylon, generating intense heat and toxic smoke. Firefighters, in coordination with local forces, utilized excavators and bulldozers to demolish walls and corrugated iron roofs, creating access paths for firefighting operations. Multiple firefighting fronts were simultaneously deployed. By approximately 11:10 PM the same day, the fire was largely under control, and it was completely extinguished by 12:30 AM on September 24th. The firefighting forces successfully protected four adjacent warehouses, effectively preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. There were no casualties in this incident. The cause of the fire and the extent of property damage are currently under investigation by relevant authorities. This incident highlights the growing importance of fire prevention and safety measures in Vietnam, particularly with the expansion of industrial zones and warehouses accompanying the country's rapid economic growth. Facilities handling highly flammable materials require robust initial response capabilities and effective fire spread containment strategies. The Vietnamese government is expected to strengthen its efforts in ensuring the safety of industrial infrastructure.
