Vietnam, Canada Elevate Ties to Strategic Partnership

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Ottawa, Canada, agreeing to elevate bilateral relations to a "Strategic Partnership." This partnership is anchored in eight pillars, aiming to address shared challenges, seize emerging opportunities, and contribute to a more secure, prosperous, and dynamic Indo-Pacific region. During his visit to Canada, General Secretary and President To Lam delivered a policy address in Ottawa titled "Vietnam–Canada Strategic Partnership in a Volatile World." This visit was part of his trip to attend the UN General Assembly and conduct bilateral activities. In New York, he also met with executives from major US corporations and lawmakers, exchanging views on economic cooperation and security. Vietnam, while maintaining its one-party system, continues to pursue economic growth and enhance its influence on the international stage. Particularly, amidst complex relations with China, strengthening ties with Western countries like the US and Canada is a crucial aspect of Vietnam's foreign policy strategy. The elevation of relations with Canada can be seen as a move that considers not only economic interests but also geopolitical balance. Domestically, efforts are underway to integrate modern technology with heritage preservation, creating new exhibition methods. The Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi, for instance, is attracting young people with exhibits utilizing AI and 3D printing. This reflects Vietnam's approach to balancing tradition and innovation.
