Jakarta Activates Water Mist Systems to Combat Anak Krakatau Volcanic Ash

The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has requested buildings in Jakarta that have water mist facilities to activate them as a measure to reduce the impact of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. Pramono stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing its water mist spraying operations until Tuesday, September 8, 2026. This action is part of the mitigation efforts against volcanic ash that is still found in several areas of Jakarta. "We will continue the water mist until tomorrow. And we have even asked buildings that have water mist facilities to be able to do it," said Pramono at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday (7/9/2026). He stated that in its implementation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government involves several elements, including the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and Satpol PP. Pramono said that the spread of volcanic ash in Jakarta has now significantly decreased. However, ash is still found in some areas, so mitigation measures are still being carried out. "And now the volcanic ash has actually decreased tremendously. But in some areas, there is still some," said Pramono. In addition, he said that the government is also preparing the option of Weather Modification Operations (OMC). Meanwhile, the implementation of OMC depends on supportive cloud conditions. "Actually, there was a plan for OMC today, but because it really depends on the clouds. Even the central government is planning the same.
