Soekarno-Hatta Airport Closure Due to Krakatoa Ash, KAI Boosts Jakarta Train Services

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi 6 Yogyakarta has added train services to Jakarta following the temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport due to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau. Manager Humas KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Feni Novida Saragih said the additional services were provided to accommodate the increased mobility of people needing alternative land transportation during the disruption of flight operations. "KAI Daop 6 strives to provide an alternative travel option for the public who need transportation due to the temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta Airport. We have prepared additional train services to accommodate the public's needs," Feni said in Yogyakarta on Sunday (6/9), quoting ANTARA. There are two additional train services prepared to serve passengers heading to Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The first is the KA Tambahan (Additional Train) service for the Yogyakarta-Gambir route, which departs from Yogyakarta Station at 18:20 WIB. Meanwhile, the KA Tambahan service for the Malang-Gambir route departs from Malang Station at 20:15 WIB. This train is scheduled to arrive at Yogyakarta Station at 02:32 WIB before continuing its journey to Gambir Station at 02:37 WIB. The addition of these train services was carried out after the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation temporarily closed the operational activities of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Sunday (6/9). The closure was enforced from 01:30 WIB to 09:30 WIB as a precautionary measure against the potential dangers of volcanic ash for aviation. Amidst the situation, KAI also urges the public active in areas affected by volcanic ash to pay attention to their health and safety during their travels. Feni suggests the public use masks and eye protection, limit outdoor activities, and ensure that their belongings, food, and drinks are stored in tightly sealed containers. "If experiencing health complaints such as shortness of breath or irritation, passengers are advised to immediately contact the officers at the station or on the train to receive medical assistance," she said. People intending to use train services are also advised to update their travel information before departing.
