Jakarta's Car Free Day Ends Early Due to Anak Krakatau Ash

On Sunday, September 6, 2026, the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI Jakarta) concluded the Car Free Day (CFD), also known as the Motor Vehicle Free Day (HBKB), one hour earlier than scheduled, at 9:00 AM. This decision was made as a precautionary measure against the potential health impacts of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. The CFD, originally slated to run until 10:00 AM, was brought to an early close immediately after the completion of the Amarta Run and ASN Run events at 9:00 AM. Budi Awaluddin, Head of Dishub DKI Jakarta, stated that this action was an anticipatory effort to protect the public from potential exposure to volcanic ash. In addition to ending the CFD early, Dishub DKI Jakarta personnel on the ground distributed masks to the public.
