Yangon-Toungoo Kalay-Dagon University railway route starts operation with battery locomotive

The Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications has started operating the Yangon-Toungoo Kalay-Dagon University railway route with a battery locomotive from September 1st, aiming to facilitate travel for passengers and students. It is reported that the train will stop at stations along the route, including Pazundaung, Malwegone, Ninsikone, Thingangyun, Ngamoyit, and Toungoo Kalay, in order. The newly launched Yangon-Dagon University railway route will make travel more convenient for passengers and Dagon University students, and additional trains will be operated if passenger numbers increase, according to Myanma Railways. For this operation, trains numbered Y-1, Y-3, Y-5, Y-7, Y-9, Y-11 for the Yangon-Toungoo Kalay-Dagon University route and Y-2, Y-4, Y-6, Y-8, Y-10, Y-12 for the Dagon University-Toungoo Kalay-Yangon route will be operated daily with a train set consisting of six ordinary carriages, each capable of carrying 62 passengers, powered by a battery locomotive. A total of 12 passenger train services, both up and down, will be run daily. Regarding the train schedule, to facilitate the commuting of Dagon University students, the Y-1 up train will depart from Yangon Station at 6:15 AM for the 8:00 AM class start time and will arrive at Dagon University Station at 7:30 AM. Similarly, for the 3:00 PM class end time, the Y-10 down train will depart from Dagon University Station at 3:15 PM and arrive at Yangon Station at 4:35 PM. The remaining trains will also run according to their scheduled times and will stop at Pazundaung, Malwegone, Ninsikone, Thingangyun, Ngamoyit, and Toungoo Kalay stations along the route. The train fare will be 500 kyats per person for any station. Furthermore, the Myanma Railways under the Ministry of Transport and Communications is planning to operate passenger train services not only on major railway lines such as Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Pyay, Yangon-Mawlamyine, and Yangon city circular and suburban lines, but also on other lines including the Pathein-Hinthada-Kyangin route, Pinmana-Tawnggyi route, Yangon-Pyay-Bagan route, Myitkyina-Mohnyin route, Thazi-Shwenyaung route, and Laputta-Tharawaw route, to ensure smooth and convenient travel for the public by train. It is also reported that additional trains will be operated on the Yangon-Dagon University route if passenger and student numbers increase.
