Cambodia Approves $233M Investment in August, Industry Sector Leads

PHNOM PENH, Sept 10, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia approved 37 investment projects worth about US$233 million in August, with ventures expected to create around 23,000 jobs, official data showed Wednesday. The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) said 27 projects valued at US$198 million were cleared by the CDC, generating about 17,000 jobs, while 10 projects worth US$35 million were registered by Capital‑Provincial Investment Sub‑Committees, expected to add 6,000 jobs. Industry remained the leading sector for investment attraction in the first eight months of the year, while infrastructure and tourism also recorded growth. The CDC said the trend reflected resilience in Cambodia’s investment environment and investor confidence in government efforts to promote business activity. Among notable approvals in August were a US$16 million cassava processing plant in Kampong Speu province, set to create 146 jobs, and a US$16 million gold mining project in Kratie province, expected to add 431 jobs. Other projects included a US$10 million salt processing plant in Kampong Speu, generating 195 jobs, and an US$8 million chemical manufacturing facility in the Jin Jing International Special Economic Zone, projected to create 22 jobs. Chinese‑owned enterprises accounted for the largest share of investment at 44%, followed by Cambodian investors at 39% and Singaporean investors at 10%. The August figures follow approvals of 309 projects worth US$5.2 billion in the first seven months of 2026, according to Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol. Cambodia also recorded 630 projects worth more than US$10 billion in 2025, underscoring continued momentum across manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure and digital sectors.
