Cambodia and Belgium Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Ties Ahead of 60th Anniversary

On the morning of August 6, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, held a meeting with His Excellency Michel Parys, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Kingdom of Cambodia, who is based in Bangkok, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and excellent cooperation between Cambodia and Belgium. Both parties also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in many sectors, including development cooperation, judicial cooperation, trade and investment, tourism, and multilateral cooperation. His Excellency the Ambassador informed His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister about the planned visit of His Excellency Maxime Prévot, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium, to Cambodia in November 2026 to attend the 20th Francophonie Summit. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure in welcoming this visit to Cambodia. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest, especially as 2027 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Belgium. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister also briefed His Excellency the Ambassador on recent developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.
